The artist has given the full amount of his £25k honor prize money to the trust for venues, which functions to save the United Kingdom's grassroots music venues.

The star was presented with the prize on mid-October as his new release People Watching was chosen as the best record of the past year.

The musician has chosen to give the cash to the trust, in appreciation of the vital role local spots had in his initial steps.

"I couldn't be pursuing my current career if it hadn't been for all the performances I performed around the North East, and beyond, when I was beginning," remarked Fender. "These locations are iconic, but they are in difficulty."

Since the start of 2023, over 150 of these venues have ceased operations – approximately 16 percent of the entire UK sector.

Recently, top acts including the band Pulp, the group Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Sheeran have all aided the trust in its initiatives to support the industry, by including a small levy to their ticket costs, which benefits local stages.

Sam Fender also joined in, collecting in excess of £100,000 on his 2024 arena tour to support numerous small stages across England, Scotland, and Wales.

These funds helped spaces that were confronting imminent closure due to challenges arising from floods, fire incidents and family tragedies, as well as permit problems, court cases and noise complaints.

Some locations obtained monetary aid in upgrading infrastructure and sound and lighting systems that positively impacted performers and concertgoers.

"The notion that revenue from shows in large arenas backs the independent spots, where it kicks off for performers like me, is just common sense," Fender has said.

The musician is far from the only musician to contribute his honor winnings to good deeds.

When the band won the trophy in the mid-90s for their record Different Class, vocalist Cocker announced that the band would give their cash to the organization the charity.

In 2002, rapper and singer she divided her award between a few charities, such as the children's charity and a charity for Sickle Cell.

"Additionally, I donated a grand to Highgate Newtown, to their gymnastics program, because I practiced gymnastics when I was growing up and they lacked better apparatus," the artist told the media.

Previously, the band contributed their winnings to the local youth club that nurtured their act, alongside other independent music bodies.

And the 1994 recipients M People donated their award to a MS organization after a friend was diagnosed the disease.

"Receiving the award was quite enough," said singer Heather Small. "The money was the cherry on top but we didn't require the cherry, because we had the honor. So our winning touched another person's life."

Last week, the trust announced it had protected a couple of grassroots venues in the South East, by transferring them to community ownership.

One venue in that area and the other in Bristol were bought under the public acquisition scheme, which is supported by the arts council and enthusiasts who purchase "shares" in the buildings.
